Questions

The questions people ask before we start.

Most people arrive with the same handful of questions, and they deserve straight answers rather than brochure language. If yours is not here, ask it directly.

Understanding coaching

Coaching is there to help you reach a goal which is important to you. You may know exactly what you want but don’t know how to get there, or you may have tried different things already and still feel that something is stopping you. Sometimes you may even have a big goal but don’t really believe that you are capable of reaching it.

A real coach will never tell you what to do. Through a specific system of questions based on professional coaching techniques, NLP and psychology, the coach helps you understand what you really want, why it is important to you, what may be limiting you and which possibilities you haven’t seen before.

During the process, you find your own answers and build a real action plan with concrete steps towards your goal. And because these answers come from you and the goal is connected with your own deep values, you also find the real motivation to take these steps.

This is what I love about coaching. Very often people already have much more inside them than they believe they do. They simply need the right process to access it.

There is still quite a lot of misunderstanding about coaching, because today many people call advice, mentoring or even telling another person what to do ‘coaching’.

This is not how real coaching works.

A professional coach doesn’t tell you what decision to make and doesn’t give you his solution to your problem. He uses a professional system of questions and coaching techniques based on NLP and psychology that help your mind look at the situation differently and find answers which you may not have been able to access before.

The questions are not random. There is a reason why a particular question is asked and why another question follows it. During this process, you understand your goal much deeper, discover what may be stopping you, find different ways to move forward and finally build your own action plan.

And this is very important because it is your goal and your life. The solution has to work for you, not for the coach.

Of course, you can think about it yourself, and most probably you already have.

The problem is that we normally try to find a solution using the same mind, beliefs, previous experiences and ways of thinking through which we already see the situation. This is one of the reasons why sometimes we can think about the same problem for months or even years and still come back to exactly the same answers.

A professional coach asks questions you would probably never ask yourself. And suddenly you may see the same situation from a completely different perspective and notice possibilities which were there all the time but which you simply couldn’t see before.

This has nothing to do with how intelligent or successful you are. I have seen very successful and experienced people discover something very important about their situation simply because they were finally asked the right question.

Coaching starts with your goal, and therefore there is no list of topics you are allowed to bring.

It can be a business or professional goal, an important decision, leadership, career, relationships, personal development or something you have wanted to achieve for a long time but haven’t managed to do so.

Sometimes you don’t even know exactly what you want. You only understand that you don’t want to continue in the same way anymore. This can also be a starting point, because first I can help you understand what is really important to you and what you actually want instead.

The most important thing is that the goal is meaningful for you, because this is your life and therefore it should not be built around what somebody else believes you should want.

There is a very important difference.

During coaching, I don’t teach you and don’t tell you what to do. Through professional questions and coaching techniques, I help you find your own answers, understand what is really important to you and build your own way towards the goal.

During training, I do teach and share knowledge. I explain how our mind works, how beliefs and previous experiences influence the way we see situations, where our reactions come from, how habits are created, what is behind stress and what can help us start changing these things. Most importantly, I give you practical tools you can start using in your everyday professional and private life.

This is why sometimes coaching is the right solution, while in another situation you may need knowledge and tools. Very often a combination of both can also be extremely valuable.

Stress, pressure and burnout

Because professional success and what is happening inside your mind are two different things.

You can have a great career, a good income, a family and everything that looks successful from the outside, while at the same time your mind is constantly busy with problems, decisions, people, things you haven’t finished and things which may happen tomorrow.

You leave the office, but in your mind you are still there. You are having dinner with your family and at the same time having another conversation with your manager in your head. You finally go on holiday and spend the first few days trying to stop thinking about work.

This is why I believe that before we talk only about work-life balance, we should also talk about mind balance.

When you understand what is happening in your mind and learn how to work with your reactions and thoughts, success doesn’t have to come together with constant internal stress.

Yes, stress reduction is one of the main areas of my work, but my approach goes much deeper than simply telling people to rest more, meditate, exercise or take another holiday.

All these things can be useful, but you also need to understand why a particular situation creates so much stress for you in the first place.

Two people can sit in the same meeting, hear exactly the same words and leave that meeting feeling completely differently. The situation was the same, but what happened in their minds was not.

This is what I work with. I help you understand what creates your reactions, how previous experiences and beliefs can influence the way you see what is happening today, and I give you practical tools which help you start reacting differently.

The purpose is not to remove every difficult situation from your life, because this is impossible. It is to stop giving every difficult situation the power to control what is happening inside you.

Yes, and this is something I find extremely important because very often we give other people control over our emotions without even realising it.

Somebody says something to you in the morning and you continue thinking about it for the rest of the day. Your manager writes an email and your mind immediately starts creating explanations about what he meant. A colleague behaves in a way you don’t like and suddenly this person is occupying your mind even when he is not anywhere near you.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that inappropriate behaviour should be accepted. There are situations where boundaries have to be set and action has to be taken.

But at the same time, you can learn to understand what is happening inside you and why another person’s behaviour creates such a strong reaction. When you understand this, you have much more choice over how you respond instead of allowing an automatic reaction to control you.

Yes, particularly when I start working with a person before he reaches the point where his body or mind forces him to stop.

Very often stress doesn’t appear suddenly. People can live under enormous pressure for years and slowly start accepting it as a normal part of being successful, having responsibility or building a career.

My work helps people understand where this pressure is actually coming from. Some of it may come from the environment, but some can also come from our own beliefs, expectations, fears and ways of reacting which we have developed over many years.

When you start understanding these processes, you can also start changing them and learn tools which help you deal with difficult situations differently.

At the same time, coaching and training are not medical treatment. If someone is experiencing serious psychological or physical symptoms, appropriate professional healthcare support is important.

Leadership and teams

I spent more than 20 years in business and worked in leadership myself, and what I have seen many times is that managers very often already know what they are supposed to do.

They know that delegation is important. They know that people need feedback. They know that they should listen, communicate, motivate people and give them responsibility. So simply telling an experienced manager one more time that he should delegate doesn’t necessarily change anything.

For me, the much more interesting question is why he doesn’t delegate even though he knows perfectly well that he should.

Maybe he doesn’t trust people enough, maybe he is afraid that something will go wrong, maybe he believes that doing it himself is faster or maybe control gives him a feeling of security. Until I understand what is behind the behaviour, another leadership tool may simply remain another leadership tool.

This is why in my leadership development I work not only with what a leader should do, but also with the person who is doing it. And then I add practical leadership tools which he can use in real situations with his team.

Yes, but I would first want to understand why the manager finds it difficult.

There can be many reasons, and this is exactly why giving everybody the same delegation model doesn’t always work. One manager may not trust his team, another may be afraid of mistakes, while somebody else has spent years believing that being responsible means controlling everything himself.

When I understand what is actually behind the behaviour, I can work with the real reason and then use practical leadership tools which support the manager in changing the way he works with his people.

Otherwise, he can understand delegation perfectly well intellectually and still return to the office the next morning and continue doing everything himself.

Yes. I work with teams on communication, motivation, stress, emotional intelligence, responsibility, relationships, leadership and the way people work together.

But before suggesting a training, I always want to understand what is actually happening.

If people are not motivated, there is a reason. If communication doesn’t work, there is a reason. If people don’t take responsibility, there is also a reason.

Very often what we see on the surface is already the result of something else. Therefore, instead of immediately giving people another tool, I first try to understand what is behind the situation and then decide which solution can really help.

For organisations

Yes. I work with companies, HR departments, leaders, management teams and employees and business owners, depending on what the organisation needs.

This can include leadership development, stress management, emotional intelligence, communication, team development, individual coaching, workshops or longer-term development programmes.

For me, it is very important that development doesn’t become simply another event where people spend one day in a training room, enjoy the training and then return to exactly the same behaviour a few weeks later.

If a company wants something to change, people need to understand not only what they could do differently, but also why they currently behave the way they do and what is preventing them from changing it. This is where development starts becoming much more meaningful.

Yes, and before creating it I would first want to understand what is happening in your company and what you want to achieve.

Companies are different, teams are different and the reasons behind similar-looking problems can also be completely different. Therefore, I don’t believe that the same standard training is automatically the right solution for everybody.

I first discuss with you what you see today, what is creating difficulties and what you would like to see differently. Based on this, I can build the training or development programme around the real situation and the people who will participate in it.

Yes. Having spent more than 20 years in business myself, I know that being a business owner comes with many different challenges, and what looks like a business problem does not always have only a business solution.

Sometimes you may be working too much and taking too much responsibility on yourself. You may be very supportive of your people and find it difficult to step back, delegate or allow them to take more responsibility. You may have an important decision to make and need to look at it from a different perspective. Or your business may have reached a certain level and you are thinking about what should come next.

This is where my business background, together with coaching and personal development, allows me to look at the whole situation with you, understand what is really happening and find what can help you and your business move forward.

Goals and motivation

Before looking for motivation, I would first look at the goal and ask why you really want it.

We often set goals because we believe we should achieve them, because people around us expect something from us or because this is what success is supposed to look like. Then we have to continuously push ourselves to do something and start thinking that we have a motivation problem.

During coaching, I help you go deeper into your values and understand what is really important to you and why you want to reach this particular goal.

When the goal is genuinely yours and connected with your deep values, you understand your real WHY and this gives you a completely different reason to take action and continue moving towards it.

Yes. Having a goal and believing that you are capable of reaching it are not always the same thing.

Sometimes we limit what we believe is possible because of previous experiences, something somebody told us years ago, a failure we remember or simply because we have never done anything similar before.

Through coaching, I help you look at what exactly makes you believe that you cannot reach the goal, what is really standing in the way and which possibilities or resources you may not currently see.

The purpose is not for me to convince you that you can do it. Through the coaching process, you come to your own understanding of what is possible and build a real action plan with the steps you are ready to take.

Working with Karina

Yes. I personally conduct all my coaching sessions and trainings.

If during our first conversation I understand that you need something different or that I am not the right person to help you, I will tell you honestly.

For me, this is very important because the purpose is not to sell you a coaching session or a training. The purpose is to understand what you really need and whether what I do can help you.

Yes. I work with individuals, leaders, business owners, teams and companies internationally, both remotely and in person.

My own professional career has also been international for many years, and I have worked with people from different countries, cultures and business environments. This experience is particularly useful when working with international companies and multicultural teams.

Most of my international coaching sessions and trainings are conducted in English. I speak four languages, so depending on the programme and your needs, other language options may also be possible.

Please get in touch and I can discuss with you what will work best.

Both options are possible. Individual coaching can be conducted online or in person, while trainings, workshops and corporate development programmes can be organised remotely or on-site.

I choose the format together with you depending on what you want to achieve, the type of programme, the participants and the location.

Because when you come to work, you don’t leave yourself at home.

Your beliefs, previous experiences, fears, habits, values and automatic reactions come with you and influence the way you communicate, make decisions, deal with pressure and lead other people.

This is why I don’t believe that we can always separate professional development from personal development. You can teach somebody another leadership tool, but if something inside the person continuously prevents him from using it, very little will change.

When I understand what is happening behind the behaviour and combine this understanding with practical business and leadership tools, I can work with the real situation rather than only with what we see on the surface.

Time, results and cost

My individual coaching sessions normally take between 1.5 and 2.5 hours because I don’t believe an important coaching process should automatically stop simply because 60 minutes have passed.

Sometimes we reach the result we need earlier, while sometimes you need more time to go through the process and build the next steps properly. The exact format also depends on the goal you are working on.

It depends on the training and what you want to achieve. Some solutions can be delivered as workshops or individual training days, while other programmes continue for several weeks because understanding something and actually changing the way you behave in real situations are two very different things.

You may understand a new approach perfectly during a training, but the real test comes later when you are under pressure, somebody makes a mistake or you find yourself in the same situation that normally creates your old reaction.

This is why some development programmes need time between sessions, so you can apply what you have learned, see what happens and continue working from there.

There is no honest answer which would be correct for everybody because people, goals and situations are different.

Sometimes one coaching session can help a person see something he has been struggling with for years from a completely different perspective. Other changes take longer, especially when we are working with habits, beliefs or automatic reactions which have developed over many years.

I don’t believe in promising everybody the same result within the same number of sessions. What is much more important is to understand what you want to achieve, what is really preventing it today and then work with this rather than with a standard formula.

The price depends on what you actually need because an individual coaching session, a leadership programme, a team training and longer-term company development are very different solutions.

This is why the best starting point is a free conversation where I can understand your situation and what you want to achieve. After this, I can discuss with you which solution makes sense, what it includes and what the investment will be.

You will have this information before you decide whether you want to continue.

Getting started

You don’t need to know this before contacting me.

You may know that you have a goal you cannot reach, that your team is not working as you would like, that you are constantly stressed or simply that something needs to change.

Tell me what is happening and what you would like to be different. During the free conversation, I will understand your situation better and discuss with you whether coaching, training or another solution would make sense.

And if I believe that I cannot help you or that you need a different type of professional support, I will tell you honestly. This is part of my philosophy and very important to me.

Yes. The first conversation is free and there is no obligation to continue afterwards.

The purpose is for me to understand what is happening and what you would like to achieve, and for you to understand how I work and whether this approach feels right for you.

You can also ask the questions which are important to you before making any decision.

The easiest way is to book a free conversation and tell me what is happening, where you are now and what you would like to achieve or change.

You don’t need to decide beforehand whether you need coaching, training or another solution. This is something I can discuss with you after understanding your situation.

My philosophy is simple: I will tell you honestly if I can help you and how, and if I believe that another solution would be better for you, I will tell you this as well.

After that, you decide what you would like to do.
